Growing up I saw that my parents were hard working people. I could see the stress that came from daily tasks. One day when I was 10 I was with my mom and we walked by a chiropractor's office giving away free massages. My mom went in and I got left in the kid area. When she came out, she seemed like a whole new person! She didn't snap as much the rest of the day, she smiled a lot more and there was this air of relief. That positive view of massage stuck in my mind.
Years later when EVIT came to our school presenting their many programs I was interested in taking the massage course. I wanted to bring relief to people who came my way. So I started the program.
I didn't expect to love massage as much as I did, and still do. I've taken many CEU classes and each one reignited my passion. One class in particular was learning the Lomi Lomi and my teacher introduced it with, "Lomi Lomi isn't just a massage, it's a way of life for Hawaiian people." and I dove into the culture and was inspired by its meaningful purpose. Now, I include the calming and healing ideas of Lomi Lomi in my sessions to help hold space with skill, empathy, and genuine reverence.
